The most expensive pool table I've installed was sold for over $40,000.00. It was sold out of what was then Bowling and Billiards in Richardson, made by AMF. Very nice, hand carved wood scroll work, quite elaborate. This table was sold to a gentleman in Plano, who mentioned he'd bought it for his grandkids. Can you believe that? Anyway, you can imagine the house it went in..
Pool Table assembly.
The oldest pool table I've installed pre-dated the Civil War, I was told it was shipped over from France in the early 1800's. This table was a two-inch thick, four piece slate, nine-foot true billiards table (No pockets). The owner of the table mentioned he'd been offered
$50,000.00, but his wife was the one who said no, the table was hers. It had apparently been passed down in her family for
generations. I thought that was pretty cool!
I can't begin to describe all of the interesting pool tables I've worked on.
I helped install the pool table Earl Strickland shot eleven 9-ball racks in a row to win $1,000,000.
I've assembled an antique table, which according to the owner, came from an old saloon and was played on by Jesse James and his gang..
I'm Marc Orman, owner and operator of
Dallas Billiard Pros.
I was 19 when I started as a mechanic apprentice at Bowling and Billiards in Richardson in 1994.
There I was trained by four different billiard mechanics with over 40 years' experience combined. After about a year I became a lead mechanic myself and 4.5 years later I was the Head Mechanic at what had by then
become Billiards and Barstools. I had trained countless helpers and worked on well over 1,000 pool tables. It was, and still is a great company, now Billiard Factory. Their main store is in Plano, Patrick "Hambone" Hammondtree was the G.M last I heard. Patrick's an awesome guy and knows more than most when it comes to Billiards.
After Billiards and Barstools I went to work at a
gaming company, Metro Games. There I received a lot of experience in bar pool tables, the coin operated kind. Also video games, crane machines, pin-ball machines and pretty much anything that takes quarters or dollar bills.
This is where I met Jeff Brashears, the second part of Dallas Billiard Pros. Some of Jeff's more memorable installations have been those of
Dallas Cowboys and Mavericks. Jeff and I at one time installed a pool table in the Mavs locker-room.
Since Metro Games, starting in 2004, I worked at
Universal Billiards which then was a small operation out of College street in Carrollton. After a year at Universal, it moved to its current location in Farmers Branch and had grown 300% in under three years. Universal Billiards had
become the second largest retail billiard store in DFW.
I brought Jeff over to Universal a few months after I started and we did most of the pool table moving & pool table repair jobs together in the beginning. Jeff was my number one mechanic at U.B. He's experienced to handle any pool table and has over 20 years experience himself.
Daniel McIntire, the owner of Universal is one of the most eccentric and interesting people I've ever known. I highly recommend Universal if you're looking to purchase anything for your game room. Any one of the staff is great
and will be very helpful.
After 4.5 years, it was time to part from Universal and go on our own. So Jeff and I started Dallas Billiard Pros.
We do up to twenty-five jobs a week, mostly week days, Monday thru Saturday, however we can be available anytime.
This is my Billiard Resume to close. I tried to keep it simple, but in short I'd put it against any other's in the Metroplex. (Jeff will just have to right his own.)
There are a lot of dunderheads out there claiming they can install pool tables. Most are inexperienced helpers that think they know enough to do it themselves, or do work way too cheap. Be careful -- you get what you pay for, my father always said. Hire someone who knows what they are doing.
We love working on pool tables, and if you hire Dallas Billiard Pros to move or service yours you'll get the best mechanics in Dallas Fort Worth.
